Mark Ronson's Version

Hipster DJ turned producer,
Mark Ronson, is the man behind two of this year's hottest albums: Amy Winehouse's
Back to Black and Lily Allen's
Alright, Still (he also worked with Robbie Williams and Christina Aquilera on their latest efforts). In his spare time he's been working on his own sophomore release
Version, due out April 6. The album is an eclectic mix of covers featuring an even more eclectic mix of artists and includes a brilliant version of The Smiths "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" featuring
Daniel Merriweather (whose Ronson produce album is due out next year) and Britney I'm-Country-Y'all Spear's "Toxic" featuring Ol Dirty Bastard and Tiggers. Some interesting stuff for sure. You can hear both these tracks on Ronson's
MySpace and other tracks - including Santo Gold singing The Jam's "Pretty Green" and Lily Allen singing Kaiser Cheifs "Oh My God" - are available on his
website. Also check out his "Authentic Shit" podcast via
East Village Radio.

Rufus' Ode to Tulsa and Brandon Flowers

Arjanwrites reports
Rufus Wainwright's upcoming album
Release The Stars includes a track entitled "Tulsa" which pay homage to The Killers frontman
Brandon Flowers. Here's a sample of the lyrics:
You taste of potato chips in the morning.
Your face has the Marlon Brando club calling.
And then the thought that I owe it all to Tulsa.
And that fat guy with the Queen shirt that we both signed together.
Wanting it for someone who'd been down forever.
Your suit was the whitest thing since you-know-who.
I feel that that saviour I've been ... may be you.
And then the thought that I owe it all to Tulsa.
And that poor girl who waited in the rain for hours to meet me...
completely.
And I owe it all to Tulsa... just a reminder
Of the antiques shop I want to go back to and visit when it´s open
In Tulsa
Oklahama...
this song's about you.
Refresh my memory. They didn't play together in Tulsa, did they? Same night, different venues? I think I was out of town.

More Mika

Pop uber-sensation Mika's -
whom I mentioned a few weeks ago - debut album
Life in Cartoon Motion entered the UK charts at #1 this week. His first single "Grace Kelly" has been at #1 for four weeks. The buzz surrounding this hot new artist is huge and his record company - the same record company that rejected him a few years back - is pulling out all the stops for an upcoming US release. If you don't already have it, they're offering up a free download of
"Grace Kelly" via
Arjanwrites. WARNING: It's infectiously fun.

Audio Crush: My Brightest Diamond
I discovered My Brightest Diamond on Stereogum back in September and immediately fell in love. She's like a big Tori Amos, Bjork, Kate Bush and PJ Harvey sandwich, so what's not to love? I just recently bought the debut album Bring Me the Workhorse and my appreciation has grown considerably. Frontwoman Shana Worden is a classically trained vocalist (at the University of North Texas no less) and she shows her chops throughout this album ranging from rocker to torchsinger to opera diva in the course of eleven tracks.Best tracks: Golden Star, Gone Away, Disappear, Workhorse.
