Yeah, that headline got my attention too... But it's not from the Village Voice personals, it's actually part of an ad campaign for Folgers by Saatchi and Saatchi. [Oh La La]
Yes, this is a vast oversimplification of a complex political and economic issue. However, when Republicans say liberals and environmentalists are to blame for the dramatic jump in energy prices, we need to remind them - and very loudly - who has really brought the current situation to a head.
Nancy Pelosi (looking alarmingly like a drunken Sherry O'Terry, but I love her anyway...) nailed it yesterday. Check out the video.
The Greeks gave Condi a warm welcome as she arrived in Athens today, spreading peace and, most importantly, freedom.
Athens police have fired teargas during a clash with anti-war demonstrators protesting against a visit by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Some protesters hurled petrol bombs, sticks and stones in return. [BBC]
Funny the American media seems to have missed this... [Via Raw Story]
Stream the new accoustic Erasure album Union Street. The collection of songs from the duo's previous albums is great - though probably for true Erasure fans only. Beautiful versions of "Love Affair", "How Many Times" and "Rock Me Gently". "Boy", "Home" and "Blues Away" are also standouts.

Check out the cover story from the new issue of Rolling Stone. Quite an indictment. Here's the first paragraph:
George W. Bush's presidency appears headed for colossal historical disgrace. Barring a cataclysmic event on the order of he terrorist attacks of September 11th, after which the public might rally around the White House once again, there seems to be little the administration can do to avoid being ranked on the lowest tier of U.S. presidents. And that may be the best-case scenario. Many historians are now wondering whether Bush, in fact, will be remembered as the very worst president in all of American history. [AMERICAblog]
There's also a short piece on the new Neil Young album Living With War, which includes the single "Let's Impeach the President".
She's a Gulf War veteran and a financial conservative.
She says that anyone can run for any office.
And she once was a he.
SPRINGFIELD, MO. - Hours before the start of the city's annual St. Patrick's Day parade, Midge Potts wore only a form-fitting corduroy jacket against blustery winds and temperatures hovering in the mid-40s. The coat was hot pink, like her jeans, her boots and the pair of ponytails in her hair. Her only green was the carnation in her lapel. - St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Midge Potts for Congress Bless her heart. She seems like good people, and probably has a better idea of what Republicans have historically stood for than most who currently wear that label. If only her campaign could afford a good stylist... [Queerty]
Julie Cherry was on the cover of the business section of the Sunday Tulsa World (registration restricted because Roxana needs a new yacht). The story is about young single women buying homes. Some people will do anything to get laid... ;-) Love the wall color and the shoes are sassy!Julie Jones sits in the empty living room of her newly purchased midtown Tulsa home. More single women are entering the housing market before they have long-established careers, or have found a partner to share the expenses.
I never jumped on the Dixie Chicks bandwagon - shocker, I know. And even though they won major points with me with the whole we're ashamed Bush is from our home state business and their subsequent sticking to their guns, I didn't pay much attention last week when the blogosphere started raving about their new single/video "Not Ready to Play Nice". Hey, I've been busy.
I ran across it again today and decided to give it a go. Wow! The bitches are pissed and I say brava! The video is intelligent, artistic and spot on - and doesn't Natalie Maines look friggin' gorgeous! The oil = blood imagery and the whole lady Macbeth (it's on all of our hands) routine is just brazilliant. Watch it for yourselves.
Here’s a plum passage from the lyrics – posted in their entirety in comments:
I made my bed and I sleep like a baby With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’ It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger And how in the world can the words that I said Send somebody so over the edge That they’d write me a letter Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing Or my life will be over
Rich folks heading to the Kentucky Derby this year will be able to spend their disposable dollars on a $1,000 mint julep in a 24-karat gold cup with a silver straw, made from Kentucky's finest bourbons. Distillery: "Mint from Morocco, ice from the Arctic Circle and sugar from the South Pacific will put this mint julep in a class of its own." via towleroad
A few weeks ago I got pelted in the head by a rather large hailstone - I'd guess about golf-ball-size. I saw stars for a few seconds and had a knot on my head for days. With reports of softball-sized hail in the area, I wondered if hail could kill a person. Turns out it can happen. Great, now I won't be able to leave the house when it's cloudy...
This was filmed half way through Vanessa's art show at the University of Tulsa. Okay, here is what NOT to do when you hear tornado sirens. We Oklahomans can't help it though. When we get a major storm in the day time, our first instinct is to go outside and look up. Tonight we were lucky that there was no serious danger.
Check out this live webcam of two Bald Eagle chicks nesting near Chandler Park. They should be flying on their own by the end of the month, but you can see they're already testing their wings. You'll also see Mom and Dad bring in the catch of the day every now and then. Kind of cool for nature geeks like me...
Hundreds of Bald Eagles migrate through Oklahoma every fall/winter, but until 1985 there were no native nesting populations. Now thanks to repopulation efforts of the Sutton Avian Research Center there are at least 55.
This article has been floating around my sister's restaurant for a couple weeks now. It's written by Jack Handy and was published in the New Yorker. Her boss brought it in and they have been setting out copies of it on the bar so everyone can get a good laugh. It is hilarious. Enjoy! article in comments
Even if you manage to avoid developing brain cancer from using your mobile phone, you still have to worry about the possibility of an angry Naomi Campbell hurling one at your head. story thanks pink
Tom DeLay abandons his bid for re-election, says he will resign in May or June. Cites "political" reasons; this has nothing to do with Abramoff. And I have beachfront property in Coweta.
Think about the social ramifications of this sentence: Country music legend Willie Nelson debuts the video for his single "Cowboys are Secretly Frequently Fond of Each Other" - featuring actor Burt Reynolds and a bevy of line dancing cowboy studs - on the LOGO gay cable network. Times they are a changin'. And it's a damn funny video!
