more on Latham

Apparently Latham has a history of "pastoring" in the area of the Habanna Inn. Public records show that on December 2, 1998, at about 11:30pm, Latham was issued a traffic ticket for "failure to stop for a stop sign" at NW 39th and Frankford. This intersection is only blocks from where Latham was arrested and serves as rear access (no pun intended) to the Habanna Inn.

Latham, one of four Southern Baptist Convention executive committee members from Oklahoma has often spoke out publicly against homosexuality, referring to them as leading a sinful and destructive lifestyle.

This afternoon, the South Tulsa Baptist Church posted the following response to Latham's arrest, "We are deeply grieved to hear the news about our pastor Lonnie Latham. Our first concerns are with Lonnie, his family, and our church family. We will be focused on doing what we can to minister to everyone in this difficult time. We would appreciate your prayers."

Police and the media claim Latham was arrested for offering to engage in an act of lewdness and not on "prostitution" charges, because there was no mention of an exchange of money. However, Oklahoma County's lewdness ordinances are combined with its prostitution oridinances and carry the same penalties.

If convicted, the lewdness charge carries a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine. full story
