What's Wrong With This Picture

"We took this photo of dowtown Baghdad while we were in Iraq. Iraq (including Baghdad) is much more calm and stable than what many people believe it to be. But, each day the news media finds any violence occurring in the country and screams and shouts about it - in part because many journalists are opposed to the U.S. effort to fight terrorism."

This photo appears with the above caption on the website of Howard Kaloogian, a GOP congressional candidate from San Diego. See any problems? [Via Raw Story]

The big one is the girl is holding hands with a boy and is in a short sleeve shirt.

this might be a dumb question, but don't people in Iraq speak Arabic. That writing on the stores and billboards doesn't look like Arabic at all.

For those playing at home. Bloggers went to work on this and have pretty much pinpointed the picture to Turkey. You guys picked up on the biggest clues. Western dress - for christ sake the woman is wearing a low cut strappy top - guy and girl holding hands on the street, and NO ARABIC. There's also a huge Lenny Kravitz banner hanging on one of the buildings and cars are not allowed to park willy nilly like this in Baghdad. Evidently many of the names on the buildings are well known Turkish businesses.
